THESE FIRST 14 LIGHTS ARE THE TEST LIGHTS FOR THE SPEEDWAY.
ONCE WE SEE HOW MUCH LIGHT EACH OF THESE FOURTEEN,  ONE-THOUSAND WATT LIGHTS
PRODUCES, WE WILL BEGIN INSTALLING THE REMAINING 36 LIGHTS AROUND AND ON THE SPEEDWAY
TO MAKE THIS HUGE HALF MILE SPEEDWAY ONE OF THE MOST LIT IN THE CAROLINAS.
BY THE TIME THIS PROJECT IS COMPLETE, AROUND AN ESTIMATED $50,000 WORTH OF LIGHTING WILL
BE ADDED TO NORTH CAROLINA'S FASTEST HALF MILE DIRT TRACK!!!
One of the most impressive sights at the speedway for every Winterfest race is that bright 800 foot
wall down the long front-stretch.  Above left is Susan brightening up the word speedway and to the
right "SPEEDWAY" is completed.
Susan is at it again, adding red white and blue to the upper bleachers.
The people who sit in this area will really like the new change.
EACH OF THE 1,500 LB LIGHT
POLES ARE  MOUNTED ON A
10,000 LB CONCRETE BOX
Much of the "buzz" around the speedway over the
winter of 2008-2009 has been about the new
lighting project. It will take months to complete.
Above, in the background, is one of the parking
lot lights on a 40 foot pole at the Feb 21st
Winterfest event.
The first test of the new lights was
done on Saturday, March 7th. Above
is five 1,000 watt lights finally fired
up at the speedway
This picture taken on Wednesday,
March 11th is phase two of the
lighting project. Pictured above is
the form for 10,000 lbs of concrete
to be poured for the first new set of
lights going up in turn 1
During our mid-season break July 4th,
we have been busy putting a new clay surface on the speedway.
